The eAMHFA Wales course teaches adults how to provide Mental Health First Aid to friends, families and co-workers and can be completed from the convenience of your home or office, without the need to travel and at your own pace through interactive modules and webinars online.
Mental Health First Aid is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem, or in a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until the appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves.
The eAMHFA course teaches you how to assist adults who are developing any of the following mental health problems, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis:
• Depression
• Anxiety problems
• Psychosis
• Substance use problems
• Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
• Non-suicidal self-injury
• Panic attacks
• Traumatic events
• Severe psychotic states
• Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use
• Aggressive behaviours
Anyone and everyone! If you are aged 18+ then this course is for you. There has been a huge increase in the number of people accessing mental health services meaning the likelihood of you or someone you know needing some additional support with your mental health is increased. The eAMHFA course teaches adults how to provide Mental Health First Aid to friends, families and co-workers.
The eAMHFA comprises of online learning and webinars. There are online modules to be completed before attending webinar 1, and then further modules to complete before webinar 2. The webinars are 3 hours long and the purpose of these is to consolidate the learning from the online modules and to discuss any questions or concerns that may arise from completing the online modules.
The structure of the eAMHFA is:
Complete modules 1, 2 & 3 online
Module 1: Introduction to Mental Health:
Module 2: Depression
Module 3: Anxiety
Attend Webinar 1 where you will be given an access code to complete Modules 4 & 5.
Module 4: Psychosis
Module 5: Substance Use
Attend Webinar 2 where you will be given the final access code to complete the course and download your certificate.
Yes, once you have completed the course, you are a fully trained Mental Health First Aider and your certificate is valid for 3 years. After this period, there is a refresher course we can provide to enable you to keep your Mental Health First Aider title.
We also offer an accredited Mental Health First Aid qualification. Following completion of a Mental Health First Aid course, there is a workbook to complete that is assessed by your Sapphire Minds trainer. Mental Health First Aid Wales courses are accredited by Agored Cymru in partnership with Adult Learning Wales.
